The reception also seeks to thank the Campaign 5000 stakeholders, recruit more stakeholders and acknowledge community members who have supported the campaign throughout the year. The Abe Keller Award is presented, as well as certificates of appreciation.

Annual Business Reception/Buy Local Week
Each year, the last week in January, is the kick off for Black Dollar Days week. The event brings businesses together to network and to show the community their products in order to increase their commercial activities. Black Dollar Days week is held to promote local businesses. The focus is to keep the dollar in the community. Statistics shows that the African American Community dollars only stay in the community for less than a minute while it stays in other communities much longer. It is hoped that we not only keep our money in the community this week but all year.

Community Walk, Bite and Jazz Festival
This event is held every year in August. The purpose of this event is three folds: First, it give all communities a time to have fun with family while walking through the business areas of the Central District to target businesses they can support. Second, it is a fund-raiser to financially support small businesses and third; it is a networking tool to promote businesses. The walk & rally starts at Spruce Park with a speaker and registration. It is approximately a 2-mile walk, which ends at Pratt Park. The festival features local Jazz bands, performances, and activities for the children. There are many varieties of booths, such African clothing and jewelry, environmental, as well as arts and crafts booths. This is an event that gets better each year.
